For those of you who didn't know, we had to put down our dear dog, Rupert after 10 1/2 years. I never thought I would miss him as much as I did, so I started looking almost immediately for a new dog. Calvin and I decided we like the miniature labradoodles or goldendoodles. Calvin has always wanted a lab, but neither of us really wanted anything that big in the house. I have always loved golden retrievers, but don't like how much they shed and they are a bite larger than we want indoors. By mixing these breeds with poodles it greatly reduces the amount of shedding for the dogs and tends to be a good suit for allergy sufferers. By mixing the breed with a toy or miniature poodle, you end up with a smaller version, so it sounded like a good compromise for us. The only problem is that they are considered a designer breed, so they come with a a big price tag.
Then I found a breeder that was looking for a guardian home for a dog. So, after many phone calls with the breeders, we went Saturday to meet Dixie. She is very timid and skittish, but we decided that we will give her a try. She has been here for about 48 hours and is doing well with the boys and I but is still extrememly nervous around Calvin. So, here is our Dixie-dog.
